As Turkey’s pioneering steelmaker in environmental sustainability and carbon emission reduction Çolakoğlu Metalurji aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

By integrating sustainability into every facet of its business, Çolakoğlu Metalurji strives to continuously enhance value for its stakeholders. The company uses an electric arc furnace (EAF) as its production method, a technology that is more environmentally friendly than those commonly used in the industry. Using the EAF process to melt scrap metal results in products with significantly lower carbon footprint than those produced using traditional steelmaking techniques. The company also aims to reduce its environmental impact by continuously optimizing its operations in areas such as digitalization, energy efficiency, and the use of renewable energy.

Çolakoğlu Metalurji prioritizes R&D and innovation in its pursuit of green steel production. The company is proactive in transparent reporting and compliance with both national and international regulations on carbon emissions, ensuring that its operations align with global standards and reinforcing its position as an industry leader. Çolakoğlu Metalurji is continuously refining its business strategies, aligning its operations and processes more closely with sustainability principles, all while effectively managing its environmental, social, and economic impacts.

Inspired by its vision of “Future - Ready Steel“, Çolakoğlu Metalurji revised its sustainability strategies three years ago, outlining 3 key management principles and 12 focus areas. Led by the company’s Sustainability Committee, these initiatives extend beyond individual projects for each focus area. They also include an assessment of how the company is currently contributing to the realization of United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s), as well as its potential for future impact.
